Daadi Ki Shaadi – movie review

A hearfelt family comedy-drama

Daadi ki Shaadi movie review

Daadi Ki Shaadi is a comedy-family film directed by Ashish R Mohan, and stars Neetu Kapoor, Kapil Sharma and R Sarathkumar in pivotal characters.

Neetu Kapoor shines as the grandmother, delivering a pleasant and charming performance that anchors the film. She is joined by popular comedian Kapil Sharma and actress Sadia Khateeb. The film also marks the acting debut of Riddhima Kapoor Sahni (daughter of the late Rishi Kapoor), who plays Vimla Ahuja’s youngest daughter. Her character rushes back to India, shocked and embarrassed by her mother’s decision, eventually joining the rest of the family in an attempt to stop the wedding.

Veteran actress Tejaswini Kolhapure plays one of the key roles and performs well. Sharathkumar, from South Indian cinema, also plays an important character in his first Hindi film. The film is connected to Kapil Sharma, whose wife Ginni Sharma has produced it. Not only it is entertainment‑oriented but also an educational movie, showing how children often expect too much from their parents and fail to express gratitude for the sacrifices their parents have made for them. This time Kapil Sharma conveys this family message beautifully.

Set in Shimla, the story begins with Tony’s (Kapil Sharma) wedding, which gets canceled when it’s revealed that the bride’s grandmother is about to remarry a retired Army officer — turning the entire situation upside down. The confused and heartbroken Kapil, realizes that he loves the girl so much and therefore tries hard to win her back leading to chaotic, humorous and emotional twists. Tony’s wedding is at risk after his fiancee’s grandmother decides to get married. While the close-knit family members are unhappy with the decision, the grandmother has decided to choose her heart.

The second half of Daadi Ki Shaadi is full of laughter and thought‑provoking moments. Neetu Singh returns to the screen after many years, portraying a grandmother with depth and emotion. Kapil Sharma shows multiple shades beyond comedy — serious, romantic and mature — proving his versatility as an actor. Sharatkumar delivers a strong performance in his Hindi debut. He plays Neetu Singh’s husband and together they bring warmth and humor to their scenes.

Chaos and laughter in Daadi ki Shaadi

As the story unfolds, Neetu Singh’s character teaches her family — including Kapil Sharma as her son‑in‑law, two sons, daughters‑in‑law and grandchildren — how to avoid conflicts and live harmoniously. At one moment it is revealed that the grandmother has lost ₹48 crore in gambling and therefore is marrying to pay back her losses. This adds a surprising twist.

Neetu Singh shines not only as an actress but also as a character full of resilience and wit. The film makes you laugh, cry and reflect on today’s social realities.

The songs are good, though not exceptional. Acting‑wise, Kapil Sharma performs well, Sadia Khateeb impresses in her debut and Riddhima Kapoor shows promise. Tejaswini Kolhapure’s return is refreshing — she’s actress Padmini Kolhapure’s sister.

The only drawback is that Kapil didn’t cast bigger stars, perhaps to keep the focus on himself. The entire screenplay revolves around him, and though the film runs nearly three hours, it remains engaging.
